Hi Solo Traveler - We're Trying Something New!

Published: Mon, 09/25/17

We're trying something new at Solo Traveler and we wonder whether you're going to like it.

Rather than send you an email on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month pointing you to all the new content on Solo Traveler, we thought we'd send that email out once a month and make the fourth mailing a little more personal. It's just a trial for now. Here's our monthly plan for you.  Perhaps you have some ideas about what we should share with you in this final email of the month.

What we've been thinking about: non-bucket-list destinations.
Tracey and I have been talking a lot about surprise destinations. Specifically, how we've had fabulous times in places that are not on anyone's bucket list.

Last month I was in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. I was asked many times why I went there. My answer was simply: I needed to experience more of Canada. I'd never been to Northern BC and I thought Prince Rupert the perfect place to start. Was I ever right! You can read: Top Tips for Prince Rupert: The Best of Small Town Travel.

Last week I was musing about where to go for a really relaxing time. Tracey piped up with Grenada which she visited way back in 2012. It's certainly not the island in the Caribbean that gets the most attention from tourists but she loved it for the friendly people, the food (it's known as the Spice Isle) and because it is safe. Grenada was not hard hit by Hurricane Irma and has pledged EC$1 million to support islands that were.

Where we're traveling.
This month we ran a conference for travel bloggers, writers and the travel industry in Kitzbuhel, Austria. The Social Travel Summit is a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues. But four days of work definitely deserves a little play. So after the conference Tracey headed off to Bratislava, Slovakia and I went to Lyon, France. You can expect stories and tips from both in the near future.

That's it for now. Safe and happy solo travel to all.

Janice & Tracey
