Hello from Sicily - A Note from Solo Traveler

Published: Mon, 08/27/18

The sea is warm and a steady breeze counters the Mediterranean heat so that even August is comfortable in Sicily.

I'm writing to you from the balcony of my resort room which overlooks a massive pool and, beyond it, the Mediterranean with its small whitecaps dotting green water which fades into a grey-indigo towards the horizon.

I'm traveling Sicily with Just You, a tour companies that is specifically for solo travelers. This is day 7 of our tour and, because our plane leaves late tomorrow, our guide has wisely made this a rest day so that we can enjoy the resort and tomorrow cover what would be typically done today. Everyone on the tour was in agreement. Twenty women and five men, all solo travelers, some who have met on previous Just You trips, are lounging, reading, playing cards... and the like today. Having walked around the rim of a volcano, explored the city of Syracuse, visited ancient Greek and Roman ruins, this day of relaxation is welcome. I'll be writing a lot about this trip in the coming weeks. Watch for it!

Tracey and I organize The Social Travel Summit every year, a conference where travel bloggers and the travel industry come together to discuss how to best serve travelers. This coming year it will be in Belfast, Northern Ireland and we're both looking forward to it.
