2nd Solo Travel Challenge of the Summer
Published: Mon, 07/23/18
It's almost here. My two day cycling trip from Uxbridge to Peterborough, Ontario with Ontario By Bike.
100km in two days over trails that follow waterways and canals, go through lush forests and pass by idyllic farmlands. There is nothing like traveling slowly. Doing so you hear and smell as well as see your surroundings. 100km is a lot for me but I've been training for it. Training for Travel: Preparing for Demanding Trips
My first challenge of the summer was in France where if I did a self-guided walking tour of the Loire Valley. I walked up to 24km in a day and not only did it feel great, it was relaxing too! Read Travel Solo on a Self-Guided Walking Tour: Seeing France Slowly and True Relaxation Found Walking Through Vineyards.
I have found all this training and active travel to be inspiring and motivating. I'm feeling stronger than I have in years. It's amazing how quickly a body responds to increased exercise. I'm going to be looking for more active travel in the future to keep the momentum going.
What's next?
In August I'm taking my first trip with a tour company that serves solo travelers exclusively. I'm going to Sicily with Just You. I am so looking forward to this. The last time I was in Sicily was in 2002 and it was with the family and it was late in our 10-month trip. There was a bit of travel exhaustion going on and, suffice to say, we did not give island its due. This time, with the guidance of Just You and 8 days to explore, I'm sure that I'll enjoy all that it has to offer.
It's Your Turn
Nominations for the 2nd annual Solo Travel Awards are now closed and the World Nomads Solo Travelers Choice Award is open for voting until September 15th. For you, it presents two opportunities. You can:
- Vote for and support a company that you think serves solo travelers well.

That's it for this month. Happy travels,
