Hello from Italy's bread basket.
Published: Mon, 09/30/19
In Italy, I humbly dialled back my vegan diet to become vegetarian once again.
I was in Emilia Romagna, which is known as Italy's food basket. It is the original home of parma ham, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar from modena, tagliatelle pasta that contains eggs, and so many more delicious specialities. To worry about the contents of their amazing foods just didn't make sense. Avoiding meat was no problem. But beyond that, I relished every savoury and sweet food experience on offer.
When asked, I direct people to Bologna as a place to base themselves for an Italian vacation. My sister-in-law did just that in the spring and really appreciated the tip as it's a vibrant Italian city but not overwhelmed by tourists. Yet, it's a half hour from Florence and an hour from Venice. To help you consider this destination, click on the links above as well as this post. It's a bit old so you'll want to confirm the details yourself but it will point you in some good directions.
Oh, and because many of you will write to ask, I will go back to being vegan. I have rediscovered a love of cooking by going vegan so I definitely will.
Upcoming Travels
Tracey is off on a two-city tour of London and Amsterdam. We don't have much information on Amsterdam on Solo Traveler so she's looking forward to exploring and sharing lots. By coincidence, I'm going to the southern part of the Netherlands next month as my husband's family is having a reunion there. Yes, soon we'll be able to give you much more information on Holland, Amsterdam, and beyond. Watch for upcoming posts.
Well, that's it for now! Happy travels,
Janice
