Small Steps, Big Change and Passion Projects
Published: Mon, 05/27/19
I learned to ride a bike by taking my brother's and...
- walking it out to the street
- standing it parallel to the sidewalk
- nervously getting on, and
- pushing forward with my foot on the curb until I reached a driveway where the curb disappeared.
- at that point I lifted my foot to the pedal and tried to reach the other side without falling.
With small, determined steps, I learned to ride. Cycling continues to be a big part of my life. Small steps towards a goal can take you just about anywhere. Whether you're taking your first solo trip or planning a solo trip of a lifetime, if you're a little anxious, think in terms of small steps.
Upcoming Travels
Tracey and I are taking to the rivers and seas this summer. In June, Tracey is going on the France Culinary Delights: Paris to Normandy river cruise with Vantage Travel. In August I'm going north again, this time with Adventure Canada on their High Arctic Explorer trip. Two amazing trips. We are very lucky!
Passion Projects
While Solo Traveler is our full time work, we also have time for our own projects.
- Simon, my husband and Solo Traveler's business manager, is also a poet and aphorist. He has a project that been going about 6 months now called Daily Ferocity. Yes, every day he offers another aphorism. You can receive them in your inbox if you sign up here. You can also follow him on Instagram.
- My project is in its infancy. It's called: WeDon'tUnderstandThis.com ...but we're going to try. I want to provide a platform where people from different backgrounds can work together to explore issues whether they be literary, political, scientific, philosophical... People propose the topics, those interested apply to participate to explore the topic on a team of three. They research, analyze and draw conclusions collectively. It will require critical thinking and open minds. We'll have an advisor and editor to help each team. I'm sure I'll figure out a shorter way to describe this with time. It will likely be a couple of months before it's off the ground but if you'd like to receive our news, you can sign up here.
