Hi Solo Traveler, Live life well.
Published: Sun, 02/24/19
Hi all,I'm writing you from Winnipeg in the middle of winter.
Yes, it's cold. Yes, I'm loving it! I've spent a lot of time outside but there is one indoor activity that has truly moved me.
Now, I am not a museum hound. I go to some but rarely stay more than a couple of hours. In Winnipeg I visited the Canadian Museum on Human Rights. I went for the morning and stayed for the day!
The museum is dedicated to the "evolution, celebration and future of human rights". And that's the thing. While it documents atrocities, Canadian and international, it focuses on change. On steps by individuals towards change. On major and minor events that helped tip the scales from the abuse of identifiable groups to the recognition and protection of their rights. In the introductory gallery is a 360-degree film that reflects some Indigenous Peoples’ views on rights and responsibilities to humanity and the land. It concludes with "live life well".
I think this is the message of the entire museum. If you have a few days in Winnipeg, take in the museum a few hours at a time. But take it in. It is well worthwhile.
Upcoming Travels
I'm planning a trip to Iceland. Yes, finally! Iceland has been on my list (as it is on many of yours) for years. I'll finally get there this spring. In fact, that's where I'll spend the 10th anniversary of Solo Traveler.
10th Anniversary of Solo Traveler
April 30th is the 10th anniversary of Solo Traveler and we're planning a celebration. There will be a trip giveaway and more. Stay tuned!
Well, that's it for now! Happy travels,
